LESSON 11 ยท DIFFERENT RELIGIONS

Why Are There So Many Different Religions?

You have probably noticed that people believe different things about God. Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and many others all have their own ideas. Some people say, "They can't all be right." Others say, "They're all basically the same." So which is it? Let's think about it.

Are All Religions the Same?

Some people say: "All religions teach the same thing - just be a good person." That sounds nice. But is it true?

Let's look at what different religions actually say:

  • 1
Christianity says God is a Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), that Jesus is God's Son who died and rose from the dead, and that people are saved by trusting in Jesus.
  • 2
Islam says Jesus was just a prophet, that he was NOT God's Son, that he was NOT crucified, and that there is no Trinity. Salvation comes through obeying Allah's commands.
  • 3
Hinduism says there are millions of gods, that the universe has always existed, and that we are reborn over and over again.
  • 4
Buddhism says there may be no God at all, and the goal of life is to escape suffering by letting go of all desires.

These are not small differences. Christianity says Jesus rose from the dead. Islam says he was never even crucified. They cannot both be right. They are making opposite claims about what actually happened in history.

๐ŸŽจ THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY
Imagine four friends are arguing about what is inside a wrapped present. One says it is a puppy. One says it is a book. One says it is empty. One says there is no present at all. They cannot all be right. Someone has to actually open the present and look. That is what evidence does - it helps us open the present and see what is really inside.

The Big Idea

The fact that many religions exist does not mean none of them are true. It means we need to look at the evidence to figure out which one matches reality.

Here is what makes Christianity different from every other religion:

  • 1
It makes historical claims that can be tested. Jesus lived, died, and rose from the dead - these are events in history, not just ideas. We can investigate whether they happened.
  • 2
Its core claim was confirmed by enemies. Roman and Jewish writers, who did not like Jesus, confirmed that he existed and was executed. No other religion has this kind of evidence from hostile sources.
  • 3
Its prophecies came true. Specific predictions, written centuries before Jesus, were fulfilled in ways nobody could fake or control.

Not all religions are the same. And when you look at the evidence, Christianity stands apart.

๐ŸŒŸ Wonder of the Day

Here is something interesting: nearly every religion in the world agrees that there is something more than just the physical world. People everywhere, in every culture, throughout all of history, have sensed that there is a God or a spiritual reality. Could that be because there really is something more - and God made us to sense it?

Questions Kids Ask

๐Ÿค” QUESTION

"Isn't it mean to say other religions are wrong?"

๐Ÿ’ก GREAT QUESTION!

It is not mean to believe something is true. Imagine your friend says 2 + 2 = 5. Telling them the right answer is not being mean - it is being honest. You can respect people who believe differently AND still believe that the evidence points to Christianity. Being kind to people and seeking truth are not opposites. You can do both.

๐Ÿ“ Quick Check

Why can't all religions be true at the same time?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Talk About It With Your Family
  • Do you know anyone who follows a different religion? What do they believe?
  • How can you be respectful toward people of other religions while still believing Christianity is true?
  • What kind of evidence would help you figure out which religion is right?
