It might happen at school. It might happen at a friend's house. It might happen online. Someone will say, "God isn't real" or "You're dumb for believing that." What do you do? This lesson helps you be ready.
It Is Okay to Be Challenged
First things first: it is completely normal for someone to disagree with you about God. It does not mean you are wrong. It does not mean they are a bad person. It just means you believe different things. And that is okay.
What matters is how you respond. You can be brave AND kind at the same time. Here is how.
Three Magic Questions
When someone says something like "God isn't real" or "Science has disproved God," you do not have to argue. Instead, try asking a question:
1
"What makes you think that?" This is the best question ever. Most of the time, the person is just repeating something they heard. When you ask them to explain, they often realize they do not actually have a reason. And you have not been mean at all - you just asked a question.
2
"Have you ever heard about...?" This is how you share something cool without lecturing. "Have you ever heard that the universe had a beginning?" or "Have you ever heard that even Jesus's enemies wrote about him?" People are much more interested in answering a question than listening to a speech.
3
"I don't know, but I can find out." This is the bravest thing you can say. If someone asks you a question you cannot answer, say so honestly. Then go find out. Saying "I don't know" is not weak. It is honest. And honest people earn respect.
๐ Wonder of the Day
The Bible says: "Always be ready to explain the hope you have. But do it with gentleness and respect." (1 Peter 3:15) Notice that it does not say "be ready to win an argument." It says be ready to explain, and be gentle. Being kind is just as important as being right.
When Someone Is Mean About It
Sometimes people will not just disagree - they will make fun of you. That hurts. Here is what to remember:
1
Making fun of something does not make it wrong. People laughed at the idea that the earth goes around the sun. They were wrong. People laughed at the Wright brothers for thinking humans could fly. They were wrong too. Laughing at an idea is not the same as disproving it.
2
You are in very good company. Some of the smartest people in history believed in God: Isaac Newton, Francis Collins, C.S. Lewis, John Lennox. If anyone tells you that only dumb people believe in God, they are simply wrong.
3
Be kind anyway. This is the hardest part and the most important. When someone is mean to you and you are kind back, you show them something amazing: that your faith makes you a better person, not a worse one. They might forget what you said, but they will never forget how you treated them.
๐จ THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY
The Flashlight. Imagine you are in a dark room and you have a flashlight. Someone else says, "There is no light anywhere. Everything is dark." You do not need to argue with them. You just turn on your flashlight. The light speaks for itself. When you know the evidence for God and you live it out with kindness, you are the flashlight. You do not have to win an argument. You just have to shine.
Remember What You Know
You have learned a lot in these lessons. When someone challenges you, remember:
1
The universe had a beginning. Something had to start it.
2
The universe is perfectly tuned for life. That looks like a plan, not an accident.
3
Everyone has a sense of right and wrong. Someone put that compass inside us.
4
Science and God are not enemies. The greatest scientists believed in God.
5
The Bible is the best-documented ancient book in history.
6
Prophecies written centuries before Jesus came true in amazing detail.
7
Even Jesus's enemies confirmed he was real.
8
Jesus claimed to be God - and the evidence says he was telling the truth.
9
Something extraordinary happened on Easter morning that changed the world.
That is not nothing. That is a LOT of evidence. You are not believing in the dark. You are following the evidence where it leads.
Questions Kids Ask

"Have you ever heard about...?" and "I don't know, but I can find out." You do not need to have every answer memorized. You just need to be honest, curious, and kind. That is enough.
